Harsher punishment for animal cruelty - more and longer custodial sentencing.
Currently the maximum custodial sentence for killing an animal, torturing, severely neglecting, using an animal as bait and other extreme examples of animal cruelty is 26 weeks. Many found guilty get away with just a fine and/or a ban from keeping animals for a period of time.
