Government commitment to spend at least 11% of GDP on total health expenditure.
The NHS is a world-class leader in health care despite continued critical underfunding.
The UK currently spends 9.1% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on Total Health Expenditure. This puts us 13th out of the 28 EU states. The average spend of the top 5 countries on this list is 11.36% of GDP.
We can't continue like this. The British Red Cross has had to step in to help with the humanitarian crisis. Many Hospital Trusts are now on black bed alerts – recently rebranded as Operational Pressures Escalation Levels (OPEL) 1-4.
