Government to invest 2p per litre of fuel duty to fix potholes on local roads.
Decades of under investment in local road maintenance has resulted in a maintenance bill of £12 billion yet the problem is getting worse as highway authorities reduce their maintenance spend each year. Investing 2p per litre of fuel duty would make an extra £1Bn available each year to resolve this.
