Petition Action

We demand that Scotland maintains access to the Single Market.

Petition Details

The Scottish Secretary for State is on record as saying that staying in the European Single Market would be the best possible outcome for Scotland's economy. The people of Scotland are sovereign and demand that our economy is not placed in a position that is to it's detriment.

Additional Information

The Conservative Party was elected on a 2015 manifesto that clearly stated they were committed to staying within the European Single Market (p72). As Scotland only elected 1 Conservative MP (who subsequently became the only Scottish MP to vote for triggering Article 50, on the basis of leaving the EU and the European single market), along with the fact that Holyrood rejected the triggering of Article 50, we declare that the UK government has no mandate to remove Scotland's access to the European Single Market.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The outcome of any negotiations with the EU would not solely be the responsibility of the UK Government. You may wish to start another petition proposing that the UK Government negotiates on the basis of trying to secure the settlement described in your petition.
