Petition Action

Add cigarette-style warning labels to products contributing to rainforest loss.

Petition Details

Cultivation of certain crops, such as palm oil, is a major contributor to rainforest destruction. Palm oil is ubiquitous in products on UK supermarket shelves. This petition is for mandatory labelling of products with ingredients, like unsustainably sourced palm oil, derived from deforestation.

Additional Information

We call on HM Government to introduce a mandatory labelling regime whereby suppliers of products to UK consumers which contain ingredients known to be likely contributors to rainforest loss will be required to prove that their product is wholly sustainably sourced.

If they cannot prove this by reference to Government approved sustainability certifications, mandatory cigarette-style labelling will be applied to the product saying: "Warning: Product may contribute to rainforest destruction."
