Demand BBC Put "'Roots' on BBC1,This is 2017 not 1619

Petition Details

Why was episode 1 of Roots aired on BBC4?? Nobody watches BBC4. I believe the rest of the 'Roots' episodes should be aired on BBC ONE. What's my licence fee for? Eastenders, Football and The News?? You have to really question why the BBC didn't see Roots fit for BBC One .all-star cast & big budget.

Additional Information

Tweets about the airing of 'ROOTS' on BBC4 inspired this petition.
African history... is human history and should be represented as such. Trans-Atlantic slavery created the modern economic world as we know and understand it.
Yet how are race relations expected to improve?... if our collective history....or 'race' as a topic...or even a TV drama are pushed to the side-lines? They won’t; especially if people remain uninformed and unaware.

It's not 1619... It’s 2017.

And we'd all benefit from finding new ways to relate.

Change comes through representation, awareness and education... the BBC could and can do 'more' with licence payers money.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The BBC is an independent body governed by a Royal Charter. Under the terms of that Charter, the BBC is operationally and editorially independent of government and there is no provision for the government to intervene in the BBC’s day-to-day operations.

You might like to write to the BBC to make this suggestion.
