Allow the Church of England to legally perform gay marriages
The Government's Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill was on 17th July 2013. However, The Act does not allow the Church of England to perform same sex marriages. If the church is willing to perform them or not should not matter, the law should not prevent the church from doing them.
The legislation to create same - sex marriage was explicitly drafted so that no church or church minister can be compelled " by any means " to carry out same - sex wedding. The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act contains the Government's ' quad lock ', a set of four safeguards for churches and ministers who disagree with same sex marriage. The fourth safeguard states that the Church of England cannot opt in under the terms of the
2013 Act.
