Create Protocol for Government Intervention in Strikes (e.g. Southern stalemate)

Petition Details

We would like to petition the government to seriously contemplate introducing a system in which labour disputes involving services essential to our economy, such as the Southern rail strike, can be handled in the case of long-running disruption and lack of agreement between the principle parties.

Additional Information

We ask the that government consider methods implemented by other nations, for example Canada, where the options include binding arbitration [For more information: http://www.cbc.ca/1.1000525]

Though we cannot quantify what the Southern rail strike has cost the economy, it certainly has had an effect; ramifications on citizens' lives must also be appreciated. In situations such as these, it would be beneficial to have a governmental framework in place.

With thanks for your consideration.
