student loan forgiveness for teachers in shortage recruitment subjects.
The UK currently has a recruitment issue / teachers leaving the profession.
Why can't the government wipe student loans of teachers that have given 3 years service or more in subject shortage areas such as Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics...
Currently offered is a large bursary to become a teacher, normally this sum is larger than the average first year wage of M1.This is attracting individuals to join the profession for a year and then leave.
By offering a student loan forgiveness for subject shortage areas this would give current teachers an insentive to stay in the profession.
It would also help boost the income of teachers lower down the M scale as it is one less expenditure from the already low starting teaching salary.
