Require all animal breeding for commercial (sale) purposes to be licensed
Only the breeding of dogs is currently licensed, while current sale legislation (Pet Animals Act 1951), is outdated and does little to protect animals.
We put it to Parliament that the licensing standard for dog breeding should extend to all animals which are bred for commercial (sale) purposes.
A bill on the breeding and sale of cats had its first reading in the House of Lords in 2015, but has not progressed any further.
The explanatory notes from said reading provide a background and review some of the issues that result from a lack of regulation in the breeding and sale of animals: https://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/bills/lbill/2015-2016/0033/en/16033en01.htm
