Remove the requirement to file UK tax returns for anyone over the age of 95
We would like the government to remove the obligation currently facing over 10,000 over the age of 95 to file a UK self assessment tax return.
The government has a responsibility to protect the vulnerable. This area is a cause of great confusion and distress for this group of our society. In most cases HM Revenue & Customs would have sufficient detail to collect a reasonable estimate of the individuals liabilities through the PAYE system.
The loss to the exchequer would likely be minimal but the benefit to this proportion of society would be substantial in their last years of life.
