Petition Details

Employed people who adopt are entitled to the same 39 weeks paid leave as those who give birth.
Self Employed parents are entitled to 39 weeks maternity allowance. Which amounts to £5,443.62.
A Self Employed parent who adopts receives no statutory allowance.

Additional Information

Whilst some parents may be able to contact the local authority for help this is not in any way guaranteed.
As part of the adoption procedures the prospective parents have their finances inspected and so the majority of parents are reluctant to ask for financial help in fear that it jeopardises their application
