MP ~ Parliament
Align all Parliamentary Constituencies with Local Government boundaries.
Benefits:
Reducing the number of MPs from the current 600 planned to approximately 400, thereby reducing cost to the taxpayer.
Creates a direct link between local and national representation.
Constituency Office funding directly related to the size of the Local Authority's Electoral Roll.
The current system is based on the somewhat outdated idea that each constituency contains roughly the same number of voters, supposedly creating an equality of representation.
Given that MPs only have one vote the size of their constituency is immaterial.
As we elect MPs to represent us in Parliament it is the relationship between a local MP and their constituents that is far more important than the size of the constituency.
