Petition Action

Make a UK citizen child, born overseas, non discriminately eligible for passport

Petition Details

My daughter was adopted and had her surname changed via a UK court of law with a new birth certificate. After updating her records in the foreign country to create a single matching identity in both countries the HMPO say she still needs a foreign passport first before allowing a UK passport.

Additional Information

Excessive high traumatic application process with HMPO. Currently 15 months in process and unresolved. Complied with full requests by HMPO to fulfil single identity by demonstrating overseas birth certificate match the UK adoption birth certificate. They insist she must update any old foreign travel document (invalid and out of date) to match the UK records first before they will allow the UK passport application to proceed. Requires more expense, time and trauma. Costs alone to date approx £5k

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure what you mean by "non discriminately eligible for passport". You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
