article 50 ~ Council ~ UK
Reform the Lords by replacing life peers with fixed-term, local area senators.
The House of Lords needs urgent reform because, as demonstrated by its behaviour over the Article 50 Brexit Bill, it is not fit for purpose.
Rename it the Senate House.
Repeal all legislation for the creation of new peers.
The leader, or elected mayor, of each unitary or district council in the UK to nominate one Councillor to serve as a Senator (MS) for either five years, the end of their term of elected council office or such time as they are expelled by a simple majority vote in the Senate. In each instance another Senator will be nominated by the leader, or elected mayor, of the relevant authority.
