care homes ~ income tax ~ month ~ Tax
Set a minimum salary of £25,000 per year for care workers working in care homes.
Social care currently lacks resource. Many care homes pay near to the minimum wage and many only offer permanent contracts of up to 30 hours a week. The industry needs change, it needs improvement. Better pay will attract people with talent and skills delivering a higher quality of care.
A 30 hour contract on minimum wage pays a carer over 25 years old, £864 gross a month. Nowadays that just about pays for the average rent of a family home without any other associated costs.
Benefits:
Improve employee satisfaction.
Gross costs directly returned to the public purse via income tax and NI.
Wage rise would amount to further savings on tax credits & other in work benefits.
Improve staff retention rates.
Save on recruitment costs.
Investment for long term stability.
