Do not deport refugees to countries that have abused them
From today (15 March) the exemptions to the Dublin Regulation - the EU law governing the transfer of asylum seekers - run out. People who have suffered extreme trauma will be sent to countries that they claim have mistreated and abused them. Parliament should not allow this to happen.
Struggling Southern European states are disproportionately allocated asylum seekers, which remains the case even when countries are linked to serious allegations of violence against refugees. There is also a risk that the threat of deportation causes migrants in the UK to become undocumented.
We are calling on the Government to suspend Dublin transfers and allow residents with connections here to stay.
