Ban all MPs from taking on additional employment during their term in parliament
Being an elected member of parliament is a full time position of gainful employment. Any additional jobs can only impede their ability to perform their valuable work as an elected public representative in parliament.
It is not uncommon for employment contracts in both the public and private sector to stipulate that no additional employment may be taken during the contracted period of employment.
It would better serve the job seeking public and wider economy for these positions of gainful employment to be held by individuals who are not already employed full time as parliamentary members.
Furthermore, given the influence in legislative and policy decisions it should be considered a conflict of interest.
