Renationalisation of British Railways
The privatisation of the railway industry in the early 1990s has proved to be a collosal mistake, with government support to the railways exploding in real terms and fare increases failing to lead to a significant real improvement in service.
Late trains are cancelled and large amounts of slack time are added into timetables to improve late statistics while any capital investment requires enormous public subsidies.
The only practical way to remedy this situation is to restore the British Railways Board and once again concentrate rail services under its control.
