Don't waste £490m redesigning the UK passport

Petition Details

A redesign of the British passport is due to take place in 2019 (coinciding with our EU exit) and the cost is said to be £490m. Do not waste this money - just pick a new colour, change the emblem and spend £489.9m on critical services instead. It would be a CRIME to waste this money so frivolously.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

The UK passport is routinely redesigned every five years to guard against counterfeiting. The Government is launching the procurement process now to ensure there is sufficient time to produce and design UK passports from 2019 when the current contract ends. The contract covers design, print, assembly and personalisation of passports.

We're not sure whether you would like the UK passport not to be redesigned at all, including to protect against counterfeiting. You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
