The education system in the UK should be re-balanced to prepare our children for the real world, prioritising the basic skill sets required to be a functioning adult.
Prioritise the 'Three Rs' at a basic level. then the sciences so that our children have an understanding of how the world works.
Later the humanities, recruit teachers passionate on their subject even if they did not go to college themselves.
Teach kids how to pay a bill rather than memorise a subject.
When they leave school offer them government subsidized apprenticeship schemes.
For those with ambitions requiring professional skills, begin specialised education and examinations at 16+.
