Exert political pressure on the Chechen govt. to stop persecution LGBT community
Chechnya: As of April 1st 2017, 100 men have been detained and 3 killed in custody for the simple fact that they are gay. This show no sign of abating.
Further reports have detailed more arrests, including the mass imprisonment and torture of gay men; beatings and executions among these methods.
The official line of Chechnya's clerical leaders is that gay men do not exist in Chechnya and there have been major crackdowns on journalistic investigation of anti LGBT policing in the country.
As remaining members of the EU, and players in the European community, the UK government can exert pressure on the Chechen government and their allies to end this persecution.
