Allow 16- and 17-year-olds to vote in the upcoming 2017 general election
In light of Theresa May's 2017 general election announcement, 16- to 17-year-olds should be allowed to vote. While allowed to vote in the 2014 Scottish independence referendum, they were not allowed to vote in the EU referendum, despite protest from people of all ages.
During PMQs on March 29th, 2017, Theresa May said, in regard to Brexit, "It is this generation’s chance to shape a brighter future for our country—a chance to step back and ask ourselves what kind of country we want to be." Since the young generation is one of those most affected by the decisions our government makes, young people should have a say in deciding their government's future.
