Suspend CPI increases to job seekes allowance, in line with average public and private sector pay rises.
Increases to benifit and pension allowances are generally set using the consumer price index which in September 2011 was 5.2%.
This means that those receiving certain benifits such as job seekers will receive a pay rise above the average of both the private and public sectors; where currently pay is frozen.
The government should debate if during the current economic climate, giving benefit claimants a pay rise higher than most working people is morally and financially acceptable and investigate suspending this.
