Hold TV debates for the main party leader in the run up to the General Election
On April 18 Theresa May called for a General Election on June 8 in order to strengthen her Party's position in Parliament, going against the Fixed Term Parliament Act. However, in a bid to avoid scrutiny, she has ruled out appearing in any TV debates, robbing the public of further democratic debate.
This petition calls for Theresa May to agree to TV debates, in order for the public to see our political leaders debate key issues in this politically turbulent time. This election is one of the most significant elections of most people's lifetimes - and May cannot be allowed to sidestep public scrutiny.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
This would be a decision for Theresa May to make as leader of the Conservative party, not as the Prime Minister. We can only accept petitions about the Prime Minister’s actions as part of the Government, not as the leader of a political party.
