Petition Action

To only be able to claim benefits for 6 months if a person is out of work

Petition Details

It's currently too easy to not work than work, people on benefits receive a lot more for not working than people that do. Workers putting money into the system with a high percentage of people claiming benefits never having paid in. Please make it harder to live on benefits than work

Additional Information

People working only get free child care after 3 years, on benefit it's 2, if this is to try and encourage work there's no obligation for them to do so. A new benefit mother receives £500 for "a pram". A working mother doesn't. Free dental care, free prescriptions and the list goes on

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action. Some benefits are paid to people who are unable to work.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do. For example, if you would like Jobseeker's Allowance to be paid for no more than six months, you could start a petition about that.
