Introduce pets as support systems for the more vulnerable members of society
Change current housing requirements, enable provision of housing with pets, for those deemed as vulnerable or alone. Pets assist with treatment of health, depression, isolation and addiction. Introduce person-centered housing based on individual need, further reducing the impact on public services.
Known as a nation of animal lovers, it is becoming apparent, pets are now too often seen more as a liability. My best friend became unintentionally homeless. Unable to take his pets to temporary accommodation, he died by suicide after 10 days, having been separated from the support system that enabled well-being. The introduction of service dogs have proven invaluable for those with specific health needs. Pets are known to provide Therapeutic benefits, giving the sense of purpose to carry on.
