Petition Action

Take a look into the legalities of using a hoverboard as a vehicle to Commute.

Petition Details

Personally the cost of myself running a vehicle everyday can be expensive. But having a vehicle to commute is my choice, I want to be able to legally ride a hoverboard as a commuting option to lower my carbon footprint and also ease up congestion on UK roads. Currently no up to date legislation.

Additional Information

1835 Highways Act - this act is currently 182 years old, yet is used against a bit of technology that has only existed in the last 10 - 15 years.

I would like to see a section dedicated to possibly giving an in-depth understanding on what can be used as a vehicle for commuting purposes that also embraces the current century and lifestyle we have.

Currently hoverboard a under ruling can only be used on private land and can not travel on public highways nor public footpaths.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure exactly what you mean by "take a look into". You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

For example, you could ask the Government to commission a review of how well the current law is working and whether it needs to be changed.
