Petition Action

Ban news organisations from glorifying public shootings and attacks

Petition Details

Details on the killer and their motives should only be available to the victims and any relatives. Giving a death count, their name, the manner in which they killed others, and any glorifying information, is dangerous and solely promotes the acts to other individuals. There should be repercussions.

Additional Information

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41466116 -- reference.
"What do we know of the gunman?" -- why should we know? Imagine considering doing such an act and knowing that a mini biography of you will be written and plastered on the news of the world. Your kill count, like a high score, the first thing people see. A dark image painted of exactly how you did it; do you not think that's exactly what they want? All this and only two names of the 500+ people injured, is this morally justified?

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure whether you would like the publication of material that glorifies or promotes public shootings or attacks to be banned, or whether you would like the publication of all information about an attack to be banned.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
