Reduce the cost of UK rail fares
British passengers pay around 6 TIMES MORE than our European counterparts for rail travel with the majority of services operated by subsidiaries of international, state-owned companies. It’s time this inequality was addressed and fares made more affordable for all.
You can't sign this petition because it was rejected. But you can still comment on it here at Repetition.me!
The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. The price of train tickets is the responsibility of train operating companies.
While the UK Government and Parliament do not directly set the price of train tickets, the Government can set the rate by which train operating companies can raise some ticket prices. You could start a new petition calling on the Government to change this rate, or a petition asking for other changes to the way in which train fares are set.
