Petition Action

Keep the cost of holidays down by keeping credit card charges in place

Petition Details

In January 2018 UK legislation is changing and travel agents will be charged with the cost of accepting credit & debit cards. This can be sometimes as much as 2% of the cost of holiday. This will inevitably lead to an increase in holiday prices for consumers.

Additional Information

The travel industry is a high volume but the margins that agents make are minimal. Please help to protect their livelihoods and keep the cost of holidays down for consumers.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

This is the responsibility of the European Union, not the UK Government or Parliament. This legislation was introduced under the Payment services (PSD 2) Directive. You could start a new petition about this issue with the European Parliament, which has its own petitions system:

The United Kingdom is leaving the European Union. You could start a new petition asking for the Government to change this policy once the United Kingdom has left the European Union.
