E-Petitions Moderation

Additional Information

The e-petitions system needs to use a consistent and common sense approach to moderation.

On launch the system was found to contain over 40 open (validated) petitions calling for the reinstatement of capital punishment, despite the stated intention to avoid publishing duplicate petitions.

In addition the lack of opportunity to modify rejected petitions means a certain degree of flexibility needs to be exercised. For example, petition 851 was rejected when the "commercial endorsement" (in the form of an example) could have easily been removed without altering the substance of the petition.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There's already a petition about this issue. We cannot accept a new petition when we already have one about a very similar issue.

You are more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.
