Let councils borrow to build council housing. Lift the government cap.

Petition Details

Private tenancies are insecure, expensive and many fail to meet basic standards.
So called "affordable housing" at 80% of market rents is not genuinely affordable. A programme of council house building will help address the housing crisis, and council housing pays for itself in the long run.

Additional Information

Government rules severely restrict council's ability to borrow to build desperately needed council housing.
Council housing funding also needs to be raised to a sustainable level.
