Petition Action

Prosecute returning Jihadists to the UK who have British Nationality for Treason

Petition Details

According to the Leader of UKIP Henry Bolton, Tony Blair amended the Treason legislation when he was Prime Minister, which means that Jihadists returning to the UK who have British nationality can only be charged under a Public Order offence instead of Treason, despite fighting against the UK.

Additional Information

The Government should amend the law so that the offence of Treason applies to UK nationals who fight for Daesh or any organisation when they return to the UK or are captured in the Operational Theatre.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

It is already a criminal offence under the Terrorism Act 2000 to belong, or profess to belong, to a proscribed organisation like Daesh in the UK or overseas. We’re therefore not sure what further action you’d like the UK Government or Parliament to take.
