Increase the safety regulations surrounding the role of prison officers
Mental health of prison officers is the worst it has ever been with the rise in the prison population and consistent cutbacks to funding.
We want more support for prison officers readily available as well as greater funding to provide a growth in officer numbers.
This year we have seen 7159 assaults on staff, a 32% rise from previous years (MOJ, 2017).
England and Wales have a prison population of 85,000 (MOJ, 2016) which is rising by an average of 3.4% a year; something the Government refuse to keep up with in terms of officer numbers.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand that you're concerned about the safety of prison officers, but we're not sure exactly what changes you'd like to be made to any safety regulations. We're also not sure what support you'd like to be available.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
