European Defense Service Medal
In the period 1949-1991, known as the Cold War, British Forces were engaged in confrontations from the Blockade of Berlin, the Hungarian Uprisings, the invasion of Czechoslovakia etc. that eventually led to the fall of the Berlin Wall and the dissolution of the Soviet-Warsaw Pact.
Although undeclared, the Cold War in Europe was a real war in all respects for the British forces involved.
They stood in unison with their NATO allies for the strategic purpose of preventing outright aggressions by both conventional and nuclear means.
It is high time for the British Government to recognise the duty and sacrifice made by those men and women who served by the granting of a Medal for European Defense Service during the Cold War 1945-1991
