Modern Foreign Languages compulsory at GCSE

Additional Information

In 2004, the previous government voted to make Modern Foreign Languages non-compulsory at GCSE in Community State schools.
As a result, an alarming number of pupils decided to drop French, German, Spanish, etc. at the end of
year 9.
The message is simple and does not need any justification other than the fact that our young people are missing out on job opportunities linked with languages.
Our children's need to learn a foreign language up to GCSE has to be made compulsory again.
