Make the national Minimum wage up to the same as the national Living wage

Petition Details

At the moment, the national minimum wage is up to £7.50 an hour. This is the statutory amount employers must pay. This does not account for the true cost of living. The Living Wage Foundation has calculated that the real living wage is £8.45. We need to be paid the amount to be able to live!

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

There is already something called the National Living Wage, which is the legal minimum wage for people over 25.

You can find out more about this here:

www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage

If you'd like the Government to increase the rate of the National Living Wage (and/or the National Minimum Wage) to a specific amount, you could start a new petition asking for that.
