Petition Action

False accusations to be recognised as a hate crime.

Petition Details

False accusers aim is to destroy. They are protected while their victims aren't. The media engage in it and the police do not act on evidence but hearsay.

Additional Information

This phenomena has to stop. For all our sakes. It is quite literally eroding our society to the point where no one will trust anyone else and division and hatred will rule.

With the advent of the internet, false accusations can be enshrined against a victim online forever. The media should not be able to name people who have not been charged or sentenced. The police should properly verify their sources.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure exactly what you would like the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Making a false allegation of a crime may already in some circumstances lead to a jail sentence - for example, if someone is found guilty of perverting the course of justice. In other cases, people who are accused of making false accusations may be prosecuted for wasting police time.

We're therefore not sure how you would like the law to be changed.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.
