Petition Action

Take a specific vote on whether animals are sentient beings

Petition Details

Following on from voting against incorporating art 13 of the Lisbon Treaty into UK law we, the undersigned believe we need a specific piece of legislation which ensures the well being of domestic and farm animals based upon scientific research which proves they are capable of having complex feelings

Additional Information

Parliament voted on the transferal of NC 30 into UK law on 21/11/2017 by a small majority of 18, 295 vs 313. We believe that not transferring this piece of legislation which was implemented in 1997 under the UK presidency of the EU can now be used to instigate an improved legal instrument which provides all animals and especially companion animals with recognition of their sentient needs based upon the most up to date research in diverse fields such as animal psychology.
