Double any sentence on conviction involving members of the emergency services.
Members of our emergency services, Police Fire and Ambulance operate willingly in difficult circumstances every hour of each day. They deserve our support. Assaulting them or hindering them in the duty they willingly perform should be treated with contempt.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Parliament is already considering changing the law on this issue, so we're not sure exactly what further action you'd like to see.
The Government supports the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Bill, which is due to have its final parliamentary stage in April 2018. The Bill plans to introduce a new offence of attacking an emergency worker while they are doing their job and increase the maximum sentence.
