Jim McMahon's 'Votes at 16' bill to be read again and voted on properly.

Petition Details

We the undersigned, call upon HM governemnt to bring Jim McMahon's 'Votes at 16' Bill back to the House of Commons for another reading and to be voted on properly this time.

Additional Information

Earlier this month Jim McMahon, the Member of Parliament for Oldham West and Royton, introduced a bill to lower the Voting Age to 16. The Conservatives exploited an old parliament law from the 19th century saying that all bills on a Friday afternoon that are not voted on by 2:30pm must be shelved. This is not just undemocratic, this is indefensible!

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

We're not sure exactly what you mean by "read again and voted on properly".

You could start a new petition calling on the Government to make time for this Bill to be debated and decided on in Parliament, if that's what you'd like to happen.
