Parliament to require all minibus drivers to have a special minibus license

Petition Details

Current law allows drivers with a car licence to drive vehicles with seating capacity between 9 and 16 seats under certain circumstances (see below) without the need for a vocational licence or specialised training thereby putting the lives of passengers at risk. This must be stopped!

Additional Information

Amongst the conditions that need to be met in order to drive a minibus (with up to 16 seats) with a car driving licence include the following:
'you’re driving on a voluntary basis and the minibus is used for social purposes by a non-commercial body.
the maximum weight of the minibus is not more than 3.5 tonnes - or 4.25 tonnes including specialist equipment for disabled passengers, for example a wheelchair ramp."

However these are blatantly being abused and our children's lives are at risk!
