Require in law that branding/ads must show a variety of real body shapes
The current position of the Committee of Advertising Practice is that “the use of thin models itself is not considered socially irresponsible.” Advertising Codes reflect UK Law. The Government should therefore make it a legal requirement for advertising to show a variety of real body shapes.
Images, models and mannequins inform our society:
“81% of 10-year-olds are afraid of being fat." (Rust, 2010 in ukessays.com)
"The current media ideal of thinness for women is achievable by less than 5% of the female population."
“…ample empirical research is available documenting associations between idealised images of female beauty and negative effects on women’s (and increasingly men's) physical, psychological, and social well-being (Thompson et al., 1999 in Calogero et al., 2007).
