Make rail commuting cost tax deductible for employed through pay roll
The increase in railway costs has outpaced the wage inflation for the recent years. Please make the railway commuting costs to be tax deductible (fully or partially) via salary sacrifice or self assessment. Similar scheme can also be rolled out to bus commuter and TFL user.
This will:
-reduce burden of rail commuters;
-encourage people to commute - increase mobility, ease housing issue in London and other major cities;
-develop surrounding towns and cities of major cities;
-reduce driving to work - less air and noise pollution;
-more 1st class take up rate.
-more commuters - increase income for railway companies, which can then lower the rail price.
-lesser road maintenance and rail subsidies for government.
Steps to prevent mis-use should also be considered.
