Petition Action

Make opposite-sex extra-marital relations included in divorce law.

Petition Details

Adultery, in law, is seen as a sexual relation between a man and a woman. This strongly limits the ability of a same-sex couple to annul or divorce on the grounds of an affair, presuming their partner has a same-sex extra-marital affair.

Additional Information

"Adultery
Your husband or wife had sexual intercourse with someone else of the opposite sex.

The law recognises the act of adultery as sexual intercourse between a man and a woman.

You can’t give adultery as a reason if you lived together as a couple for 6 months after you found out about it." https://www.gov.uk/divorce/grounds-for-divorce
