Require Ministerial Approval of HMRC Tax Compromise Deals In Excess of £1m
We, the undersigned, call on the government to enact measures, whether through ministerial directive or as part of the 2012 Budget, to explicitly deny the staff of Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs the authority to make compromise deals with companies in disputes relating to outstanding taxes (including Import Duties, VAT, National Insurance, Corporation Tax and any interest owed on outstanding taxes) where the amount involved is in excess of £1 million, without explicit ministerial authorisation, and that the Chancellor of the Exchequer must make a written submission, to be published in Hansard, setting out the details of, and justification for, any such compromise deals which do receive ministerial authorisation.
