Petition Action

Ensure that a zero-tolerance view to speeding is not enforced

Petition Details

Anthony Bangham, the head of the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) on road policing, has stated that drivers caught speeding 1mph over the limit should be fined.

Such a view to speeding should not be brought into place as it is arguably more dangerous than the current view of a 10% buffer.

Additional Information

The president of the AA, Edmund King, has said: “The last thing we want is drivers glued to the speedometer 100 per cent of the time. We want drivers to concentrate on the road ahead.”

Tory MP, Sir Greg Night, has said that a zero-tolerance approach to speeding would, “make criminals of good drivers.”

IAM Roadsmart's head of policy, Neil Greig, said: "Simply adjusting the electronic setting on a few cameras is unlikely to eradicate road deaths caused by human error."
