Align legal status of pharmacy standards with individual pharmacist standards.
BBC coverage: Boots pharmacists raise staffing concerns; Boots Pharmacist under Pressure? ‘Frazzled’ Boots pharmacist mixed up patient’s pills.
This highlights how errors seem ALWAYS the fault of frontline pharmacists and NEVER the fault of the organisation or because of policy set by the employer.
The documentary ‘Pharmacist under pressure?’ highlighted three fatal cases. The serious case review reported a failure of individual pharmacists as a direct cause of the avoidable errors in drug dispensation. Only in one case were the owners of the premise held accountable (vicarious liability). Pharmacists must be provided with the minimum time and resources to prevent these errors. Patient safety will improve by holding pharmacy owners to legal account and not scapegoat individual pharmacists.

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand you are concerned about the burden placed placed on pharmacists, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
You could start a new petition asking for a specific change to the law.
