Petition Action

Ban the use of animal fat in sterling money in the UK.

Petition Details

The new notes that have been distributed around the UK contain animal product. Even to non vegans/vegetarians, this is not cost effective or environmentally friendly. A petition was started before the new election but then closed, only 2,000 signed.

Additional Information

Please help, this is beyond ridiculous. Animals as food is one thing, but to kill an animal for money. We now have a comprehensive system that allows electric transfers and a card to touch on a screen. we should be able to go noteless.

This petition was rejected

The Government e-Petitions Team gave the following reason:

Bank notes are the responsibility of the Bank of England, which is independent of the Government and Parliament.

You could start a new petition asking the Government to urge the Bank of England not to use animal products in its bank notes.
